Need Help Creating Realistic Car Windows And Chrome
By Randy Le'Moine | October 12, 2004 | 1:22 am or 1:22 am GMT
Need help rendering some realistic car glass and chrome if possible. I've tried dieletric, blinn, phong and alot of other configurations. What I come up with is far from realistic. Secondly, my chrome is to clean, would like to create something similar to realistic chrome. Sorry if this does not make sense long day today sorry. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

well in my experience a good chrome depends more on the enviorment that it reflects than on the material itself, i would advice you to chech out some books on how photographers use screens and lapms to literaly "draw" reflections on the chrome. and then mimic that method on your scene.
on the other side, i have found its easier to make a render pass for the windows reflections and refractions. and then compose the final image, that way you have more control over the transparency and the general look of the image.
hope it helps

Thanks for the replies and help very much appreciated. As for paint I used a phong shader with specular, diffuse and specular color controlled by ramps and sampler info nodes. I will post some more renders with new shaders very soon thx again.
