Thanks Gabriel, I have been laying out the UV's for the legs today. My computer just crashed though whilst in full flow, loosing me a bit of tedious work, so I'll have to do that again! I think that my graphics card might need replacing there is an occasional warning beep!

nice work i really like the metal shader, and the details on the armor, what software do u use?? sucks when your computer crashes when your working even worse when it's uvmapping, but good luck with it, will be following this thread :P

The metal currently is a straight Blinn with reflectance map. I will dull it down after I have finished the UV's. I am having much fun (strangely) modelling the armour, finding out how the different bits slot together. The different intricacies in the metalwork on a suit of armour are a work of art in their own right.

For the modelling of the legs I used Wings, due to its intuitive context sensitive interface, and also its camera mimicry of other packages, I find it a fast tool for polygon modelling. There is allot of software discrimination out there, back when I was in college, the class was divided as to which of the two 3d packages we used were the best. Then when I joined the workforce constantly the conflict of Softimage versus Alias was an issue. I have used both professionally, but when it comes to modelling I see little difference in which 3d package you use as they all have roughly the same features.

Thanks for the well wishing and good luck to you too!

The horse is being steadly refined, I have been trying to block it in, as best I can, and have made a few changes in my decisions, some of which I might overturn.

I've been doing the gauntlet... Here's an animated gif of its construction, someone might find it interesting!

The gif is compressed allot, so here it is a bit closer so you can see the detail. There is no internal gloves yet.

      Thanks OZ!

Here's a cool pdf on how to construct armour, from a blacksmiths point of view. I found it a great help in building a digital version.

Helena, I just had to stop by and commend you on your beautiful work! The attention to detail is breathtaking. Please don't stop... I gotta see this completed.

...oh, and I volunteer you for a really detailed tutorial on your process. You're welcome.

The animated gif shows pretty much the modelling process I used for the armour. I don't know about tutorial's, at the best of time's, I have a hard time translating what is going on in my head! LOL But if you have any questions I can do my best to answer.

Thank you creandofx, one does one's best! I feel though that presently I'm busy going nowhere with the modelling, as my progression has been slow the last couple of days. I'll post an update later when I feel I've reached a plateau.

Thanks all for coming over and viewing this thread and also for your kind comments

The Paladin is a bit like Humpty Dumpty presently, I am hoping to put his various bits together by tommorow, and then maybe I can move onto some serious cool stuff, which would be nasty dragons!

      best,

      Helena
