Here's my final image. The post processing in Photoshop was only blending some layers rendered from 3dsmax. There was the forest layer with the characters, an occlusion pass for some global illumination, a grass layer (which I made with fur:fx), the background image wich I drew in Photoshop and added it as a fog, by using a depth pass as its layer mask, some 3dsmax 'combustion' effects used to create the vapors around, and another layer for the dragon (which had a little motion blur applied from mental ray). I did some brightness/contrast corrections and some noise reduction in the end (because the sharpness of the details was uneven throughout the image).
I had to sacrifice a lot of details because of the lighting setup I chose. I guess it's better to get a nice image as a whole than show off all the hard work I did on modeling and texturing detailed characters.
This was really a great contest. I realise I have little chance of winning anything as there are some really great other entries, or should I say more captivating threads. This is my first contest of this type, and I really hope everyone will judge the best artwork by the final image and not by the detailed, shiny work-in-progresses and sweet talk
So please let me know if you have any crits or if you like my image!
