Hi everyone, this is a still of an old project i did for a contest, i know that perhaps it doesn?t look very nice, but is something i wanted to share with the whole comunity. Wait for critics and comments.
well, the little devil is 2d, and the set is 3d y used Maya to build the set, and i drawed on paper the devil, scanned it, and put color on Aura2, the shadows were done in After effects as well as the composite. I used about 30 layers to create this final composite, I?ll put a image of the layers i used tomorrow.
To compose the devil, i first build the set, did a big render of the final camera shot, printed it and used as my background plate to start animating.
It took me about two weeks, working during the nights and early in the mornings, to complete this animation, and during the last week, i only scanned 74 frames of the devil animation and had to draw a few inbetweens on Aura and do some Hanna Barbera technique to complete the 30 or so seconds that lasts. ja. So if you think the animation is so stiff and rough y must confess y was the time available and my lazziness. Ja. But to be honest I had a great time, eventhough it was very tuff to do this.
A friend of mine whose name is Mario Rojano, helped me with the paint thing, and also with the shadow animation, I did a still with the shadow position, and he did the mask on After effects.
When all the animation was colored and with shadows y did a render in full res. and put it on a plane in Maya inside the set, did the final render and put that layer on the comp.
The toon look in the 3d set was achived combining various techniques, including Stefano Tobacco tutorial (http://www.deathfall.com/tutorials.php?op=showcontent&id=67) so thanks to Deathfall for posting this amazing tutorial.
I?m working on my next project, it?s more ambitious, cause the character will be fully interacting with the whole set, besides all that narrative stuff that ?m supossed to have improved. Ja, I?ll put some tests in few weeks.
here is the test from the new project I?m working on, that?s not the character, I?m just playing and experimenting with the tools and the technice.
